Eterne Architectural color
and design
Eterne offers color and design consulting through both mail and on site. It is a complete process in which we guide the client through the choice of color and design elements. Our expertise is in Victorian and Craftsman Style architecture and of structures with architectural significance.
The process begins with an initial conversation, email or text that involves laying out the parameters of the project so that a set price for the color and/or design consultation can be established. Once the price is accepted and a simple contract signed, Michael Tunson, color consultant for Eterne, and the client exchange color ideas. Most importantly, Michael will request what type of “feel” the client desires and what colors are NOT suitable. After this exchange of information, Michael selects a minimum of two color palettes using paint chips from a quality paint manufacturer. The color palettes are presented to the client without the presence of the color consultant so that an objective response can more easily be obtained. The procedure is repeated, if necessary, until a desirable color palette is selected.
After the selection of the color palette using color chips, the next step is to purchase the actual wet paint samples so that they cam be applied to the different details of architecture on the building. Michael will identify certain architectural features and will dictate the application of the paint to these areas when remodeling a Victorian home. If this is an on-site consult, Michael will apply the colors on the building himself. If through the mail, Michael will guide the owner and painting crew through the paint application process using numbered photos exchanged through text or email.
Once the paint samples are applied, changes, if necessary, will be made to obtain the best colors for the building. This may require purchasing new samples or new samples being mixed on site by Michael. All mixed samples can be reproduced with a formula at the paint store so that the color can be easily obtained in the future.
Once the painted sample has been accepted, pictures will be taken of all areas of the building to which a coating will be applied. Michael will number the different architectural elements which will correspond with a numbered color summary. An example of this important procedure can be seen below.
We also have expertise in design where new architectural ornament can be added. This may be in the form of wood moldings, plaster ornament, decorative wrought iron and decorative sheetmetal and copper work. We create designs for surrounds around windows and doors, as well as designing components that form architectural details such as cornices and friezes.
